2.1. Introduction

GENERAL INFORMATION

The present manual is a grant on car repairs of Audi 100 of release from 1982 to 1992 and is intended for employees of service stations and repair shops. It can be to useful also individual owners of cars.

The management helps to reveal malfunctions of the car, methods of their elimination are considered.

Car repairs are based on replacement of faulty details and knots new.

Need of replacement of details is determined by tables of admissible gaps and iznos. However it must be kept in mind that data on limit wear of details have approximate values and should not be considered as the only criterion, without behavior of a detail in knot or the unit.

The Audi 100 car belongs to middle class and has the all-metal bearing body like sedan or the versatile person.

On cars the whole scale of four - and five-cylinder petrol engines from 1,8-liter 100 h.p. to 2,23-liter with the 200 h.p. turbo-supercharging is established.

Except petrol engines, for Audi 100 there is a family of diesel motors.

On the car establish four - and five-speed transmissions or automatic three-stage.

The basic model of the car has front-wheel configuration, but there is also a modification with the full drive.

The steering – rack type, is modifications with the amplifier of a steering.

Brake system – double-circuit with a hydraulic actuator, forward brakes – disk, back can be drum or disk (depending on engine capacity). Depending on a complete set the car can be equipped with ABS (anti-blocking system). At all modifications in system of brakes the amplifier is installed.

On the car the safety steering column, part of cars is applied (depending on a complete set) equipped with an inflatable safety cushion for the driver.

The car has a body, exclusive from the point of view of aerodynamics (at a sedan coefficient of Skh=0,3, at the Skh=0,34 station wagon). It is reached thanks to smooth contours of a body, without sharp transitions, to a big inclination of wind and back glasses, and also an original design of lateral windows. Glasses of lateral windows are established on a framework of doors outside, aflush with body racks. Such design for the first time in the world was applied on the serial car.

Much attention when developing a body was paid to corrosion resistance. The most subject to corrosion of a detail are executed from a tsinkrometall; the details which are not bearing loadings are made of plastic.
